It provides a disciplined approach to understanding the mission, analyzing the operational environment, developing and comparing courses of action, and producing a coherent plan for execution.

MDMP integrates mission analysis, intelligence preparation, operational design, and risk assessment to transform guidance into actionable plans. The Joint Military Decision-Making Process (JMDMP) is a structured and collaborative planning methodology used by joint staffs to support commanders in developing effective courses of action across multiple military services. It integrates the capabilities, perspectives, and constraints of land, air, and maritime forces to achieve unity of effort in complex operational environments.

The process guides joint planners through mission analysis, operational environment assessment, course of action development, analysis, comparison, and approval, culminating in the production of a coordinated joint plan or order.
